Portraits and self portraits

I like this professional photo because it has leading lines that leads to the subject. I like the illusion that the photo creates when you look through it you see many triangles. There is a great contrast in colors, it you look at the background of the photo it gets darker as you look up the wall. The edges of the first triangle balances the photo.

This self portrait photo is nice because it nearly fills the hole frame. The subject is fully visible and is the first thing the viewer notices. I like how it's taken at an angle. It creates a certain flare to  the photo.

In my future photos I hope to accomplish more of the rules of photography and try to avoid mergers in order to take better photos.

Abandon Theme Parks

1. I would like to visit the amusement park in Lake Dolores, Newberry Springs, CA because it is a combination of an amusement park and a water park and a camp ground in a unexpected locale. It is supplied with water underground. I like the view and how the landscape looks like. I think I could take good pictures there.

2. Outer Space, The Sky, The Earth's mantle, The North Pole, The Great Wall of China.

 5. It would be interesting to take pictures in outer space because there is just so much information that is yet to be discovered and there's so many possibilities. I would like to take pictures of different stars. If I had the proper equipment and I was certified to do it.

6. I would take many change of clothes and food. The basic necessities. I would take my camera and my personal belongings.

Print Evaluation My First Print by Umar Kurugu

1.) Is anything in sharp focus?
Yes the objects that are black seem to be in sharp focus.
a.) Describe what is in focus and what is not.
The person I took a picture of and the plants around him are in focus, but the railing isn't in focus.
b.) If not in focus, state the cause.
The railing isn't the center of the photo and it is on the outskirts of the photo therefore it appears blurry.

2.) Is there good contrast? (Look for the blacks and whites in the photo)?
The black clothing of the person in the photo reading the newspaper along with the white tile of the hallway floor.
a.) If no, state the probable cause?

3.) Are all the rules followed? (Is the photo candid? Does the subject fill the frame? Does the photo contain action? Does it follow composition rules? Does it show "academics"?)
a.) If yes, explain what techniques were used and how you followed them in your photo.
b.) If no, how will you correct this next time? I will move in closer to take the photo of my subject in order to fill the frame.

4.) Is there yellowing or are there spots on the print?
No
a.) If yes, what caused it/them?

5.) Are there print rings or spots?
No
a.) If yes, state the probable cause.

6.) Are your negatives, contact sheet, test strip and print stored in your folder?
Yes
a.) If no, explain why.
What are they doing?
Working on a math problem

Where are they?In either Geometry or Algebra II

When is this happening?
It is happening during sixth period.
Why are they doing this?
In order to strength their math skills.
Let's write a caption:

1st sentence

Subject -- action verb (present tense) -- object -- how -- why -- when -- where.
Brandon is working on a Geometry assignment using a ruler and a calculator during his sixth period class.

The verb should be in present tense and the sentence should answer the 5Ws and 1H.

2nd sentence

Subject -- verb (past tense) -- object (describes background [context] of the situation shown in picture.)

The verb should be in past tense and the sentence should provide background info we couldn't get from looking at the sentence. Brandon worked on his Geometry assignment and is
waiting for his partner to finish.

Making a Black and White Print by Umar Kurugu

Making a Black and White print

1.) List the materials (equipment) necessary to make a black and white print:
Timers, Drying Cabinets,Tongs Or Spatula, Enlargers, Focusing Aids,Safe lights

2.) List the chemicals we might be using to make a print and where one would buy those chemicals:
developer, stop bath, fixer found at the Kodak website
3.) Summarize in one or two paragraphs the process from start to finish:


4.) Post a photo of the equipment necessary to make a black and white print:

1. emulsion-a light-sensitive coating on paper or film; consists of fine grains of silver bromide suspended in a gelatin.
2. aperture-is referred to the lens diaphragm opening inside a photographic lens.
3. masking easel-a frame, often with adjustable masks, used to hold photographic paper flat and control borders when printing enlargements.
4. exposure-is the total amount of light allowed to fall on the photographic medium.
5. safe light-A filtered light that's used in a darkroom to allow you to see while handling light sensitive material.
6. dodging-decreases the exposure for areas of the print that the photographer wishes to be lighter
7. burning-increases the exposure to areas of the print that should be darker.

Post Shoot Reflection

1. I think that the biggest challenge for me was trying to get students to seem like they were working. Many students didn't want there picture taken and didn't take me seriously. Another problem I had was with my balance so I had some pictures that were kind of shaky.
2. In one of my photos I had hard time focusing my photos and so it came out not as good as others could have.
3. In a couple of my photos I attempted to use the rule of thirds.
4. The next time I shoot photos I will sit in a chair and take my photos in order to prevent photos that lack in focus.

Ethics in Fashion and Photography

1. List the changes that were made to the model's face in the computer. (Look carefully)
 As the photos changed more and more makeup was added to the model to cover up her imperfections. Also her eyes were enlarged using photoshop.

2. Is it ethically acceptable to change a person's appearance like this in a photo? Why or why not?
Personally I don't think it is ethically acceptable for someone to change a person's appearance like that but, apparently society finds it a normal and OK thing to do.



3. Are there circumstances in which it would be more ethically wrong to do this type of manipulation?
Yes I think it would be ethically wrong if they were to show these kinds of things to third world countries. It's hard enough that they have to live harsh lives day by day and these kinds of ideas would just add another burden on those people who are living harsh lives.


4. What types of changes are OK, and what aren't?
I would agree with a small amount of makeup but the heaps of makeup plus the photoshop would just be unacceptable and is going overboard.


5. Explain what you think the differences are between fashion photography and photojournalism.
In fashion photography photos are mainly focused on model and the latest celebrity outbreaks, whereas the photography in photojournalism encompasses nature and objects of all kinds and different kinds of people.


6. What relationship does each type of photography have to reality, and how does this affect the ethical practice of each? The messages that the photos in the video give out affect how young people view what is ethical and what isn't ethical in society and in reality to an extent. Young people begin to believe that this is what defines beauty and if you aren't what it shows than you aren't beautiful.

Negatives Evaluation

1. From looking at my negative photos I think that eleven out of thirteen photos came out quite well.
2. I think two of my photos didn't come out too well because of bad positioning and under exposure to light.
3. I think the eighth photo that I took would come out best because among all of my photos the balance of light and dark are distributed very well and the shot looks crisp.
4. In my best negative some aspect of the focus the picture is there while I have many others in the background. The person that I have focused in the photo is in the center.

5. In my second photo I have an example of the rule of thirds because my photo takes up one third of the photo.
